Dagen före julafton. Alltid en spännande dag. Allt kan hända. 

För mig har redan mycket hänt. Under hela december. Jag har fått en massa släktingar, som jag inte kände till förut. Jag har fått lära mig att finnas till ordentligt. Annars kan man hamna bland de osynliga.

Alla vi synliga sitter hos Albertina på lördagsfrukost. Vi väntar på Roffe och Mattias. Vi tror att de ska komma hem idag. Vi hör ytterdörren. Någon öppnar den, klampar in och pustar och dunsar. In i köket kommer Melker och Maurits.

De ställer ner varsin tung stor säck på golvet och säger allvarligt att de inte vill ta emot alla julklappar, som de har hittat.

Vi känner en väldig besvikelse. Kanske skulle de där gamla bröderna ha fått pepparkakorna i stället. Så otacksamma över julklappar har ingen av oss sett någon tidigare.

Vi tittar på säckarna och funderar på vad vi nu ska hitta på. Då rör sig säckarna där de står på golvet. Två figurer verkar försöka ta sig ur säckarna. Roffe och Mattias!

Å så roligt att få se dem igen, tycker vi alla. Hela släkten i ett och samma rum. Äntligen!

Lucia undrar om Maurits försökte gömma henne. Han ser ångerfull ut. Så där som jag brukar göra när jag gjort något riktigt dumt. Han nickar och säger förlåt. Han förstår hur tokigt han tänkte. Lucia säger inget. Hon vill att han ska fundera noga över vad han har gjort.

Maurits berättar att han inte märkte att Roffe satt i glömda rummet i stället för Lucia. När Mattias kom inkrypande till glömda rummet för att rädda Lucia fann han i stället Roffe där. Mattias trodde att Roffe spelade honom ett fult spratt och bara hade lurat honom att Lucia satt där. De grälade så högljutt att Maurits hörde det och tittade in i rummet. Han undrade hur de hade kommit dit och var flickan hade tagit vägen.

När Roffe och Mattias förklarade för Maurits hur det låg till förstod Maurits vad han ställt till med. Han kände sig till och med ledsen över det han gjort.
Melker kom förbi och fann alla tre i glömda rummet. Han satte sig där också.

Efter en stund började alla fyra skratta så högt att de nästan tjöt. De insåg hur löjligt det måste se ut med fyra vuxna män i ett litet tyst och mörkt rum där ingen av dem tror att de finns.

De kom ihåg att de hade familjer, som väntade på dem därhemma. Inte jag, hade Maurits sagt då.

Mattias berättar att julklapparna kom precis i rättan tid. De hade aldrig fått Maurits med sig därifrån annars. Då hade vi suttit med midvinternattens längsta strömavbrott någonsin på julafton.

Lucia går fram till Maurits och säger att hon förlåter honom om han lovar att aldrig försvinna mer. Han får en klapp av henne.

  1. The day before Christmas Eve. Always an exciting day. Everything can happen.

    For me it has already happened. Throughout December. I’ve got a lot of relatives, I did not know before. I have learned to exist properly. Otherwise you could end up among the invisible.

    All we visible sitting at the Albertina Saturday breakfast. We are waiting for Roffe and Matthias. We believe that they will come home today. We hear the front door. Someone opens it, tramping in and puffs and thuds. In the kitchen will Melker and Maurits.

    They set down the respective heavy big bag on the floor and say seriously that they do not want to receive any Christmas presents, which they have found.

    We feel a great disappointment. Maybe those old brothers have got gingerbread cookies instead. So unappreciative of Christmas presents none of us have seen one before.

    We look at the bags and thinking of what we now think of. Then move the bags where they stand on the floor. Two figures seem to try to get out of the bags. Roffe and Mattias!

    On such fun to see them again, do we all. The whole family in one room. Finally!

    Lucia wonder if Maurits tried to hide her. He looks remorseful out. So there I usually do when I’ve done something really stupid. He nods and says sorry. He understands how crazy he thought. Lucia says nothing. She wants him to think carefully about what he has done.

    Maurits says he did not notice that Roffe sat forgotten in the room instead of Lucia. When Mattias came inkrypande to forgotten room to save Lucia, he found instead Roffe there. Mattias thought Roffe played him a dirty trick and just had cheated him that Lucia sat there. They were arguing so loudly that Maurits heard it and looked into the room. He wondered how they had got there, and the girl had gone.

    After Roffe and Mattias explained to Maurits how it was understood Maurits what he’s been up to. He felt even sorry for what he had done.
    Melker came by and found all three in a forgotten room. He sat there, too.

    After a while started all four laughing so loud they almost shrieked. They realized how ridiculous it must look like with four adult men in a small quiet and dark room where none of them think they are.

    They remembered that they had families, who were waiting for them at home. Not me, Maurits had said then.

    Mattias says that the gifts came just in time. They had never received Maurits with it from there otherwise. Then we had been sitting with a midwinter’s longest power outage ever on Christmas Eve.

    Lucia goes to the Maurits and says she forgives him if he promises never to disappear more. He gets a pat of her.
